• Study Director - Toxicology

    Position Reports to: Vice President, Pharmacology & Toxicology

    Basic Functions and General Scope:

    The Study Director in Toxicology will be responsible for conduct of pharmacology and toxicology studies at Pacific BioLabs. For GLP-compliant studies, the Study Director will be the individual with primary responsibility for assuring these studies conform to regulatory guidelines. The Study Director will participate, with management, in scheduling and resource allocation for studies across all of Toxicology.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    The Study Director will be responsible for proper conduct of all study aspects, including study initiation, study performance, animal health monitoring, outsource of subcontract activities, report writing, and maintaining complete and accurate records.  The Study Director will supervise and coordinate the technical activities of staff to ensure successful study conduct in these areas of responsibility.  The ability to work in a GMP/GLP-compliant environment and in concert with the QA Department is also a critical component to the successful completion of responsibilities.

    The Study Director will interact directly with clients in the design and implementation of studies.  Interpretation of study results and communicating those results to the client are important responsibilities of this position.

    The Study Director will also participate in, and contribute to, the development and implementation of new pharmacology, safety pharmacology, and toxicology techniques and models.  These new techniques and models will be developed in response to specific client needs and in response to changing regulatory and industry expectations.

    Position/Personal Requirements:

    A minimum of a BS in biological or animal sciences is required; an MS or PhD in Toxicology or related discipline is a plus.  Experience in conduct of toxicology studies, animal disease models, surgical support, or large animal husbandry can substitute for education, as can experience as an RVT, LATg or vivarium manager.  It is expected that the Study Director will have experience with techniques used in test article preparation, test article administration, collection of tissue specimens, and general laboratory techniques; an understanding of general toxicological principles and procedures is also expected.

    The successful Study Director will be independent, results-oriented, and have a hands-on attitude.  They will demonstrate a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work as a team member in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.  The successful Study Director will also have good attention to detail, strong time management skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

• Administrative Services Specialist - Toxicology

    The Administrative Services Specialist in the Toxicology department is responsible for planning and overseeing administrative components of biotech support as well as reporting the data generated by the in vivo toxicology studies. They play a key role in client communication during the various stages of special study projects (i.e. quotes, fielding technical questions to various department personnel, reporting interim data, managing the study timeline database). The specialist must be a highly motivated individual capable of managing multiple tasks and communications simultaneously.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1. Project Database Management
    2. Scribe/Distribute Project Planning Meeting Notes
    3. Field Technical and Client Services Calls
    4. Compile Interim and Final Toxicology Study Reports
    5. Assist Technical Staff in meeting project deadlines
    6. Assist in interdepartmental communications (i.e. liaison with Business Development)
    7. Quote Development
    8. Potentially assist the Company at trade shows or professional associations; develop and promote positive client relationships.

    Requirements:

    1. Associates degree required; Science or Technical degree preferred
    2. Minimum of 2-3 years of client services or project management experience.
    3. Adept with various word processing skills and software programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel)
    4. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
    5. Technical writing experience preferred
    6. Able to work in a highly stimulating and multi-tasking environment
    7. Amenable to working with multiple individuals and personalities.
    8. Manage multiple projects.

• Microbiologist

    A Microbiologist who has excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be upbeat and friendly, able to work in a fast-paced environment. Solid critical thinking skills and accuracy of detail are required. Duties include:

    1. Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of current standards and methods pertaining to microbiology testing at PBL. This includes USP and European methods of testing of pharmaceutical products, as well as AAMI guidelines pertaining to sterility assurance of medical devices.
    2. Assume the role of study director for microbiological studies as directed by supervisor. Duties include test scheduling, test preparation, proper application of test methods, data collection, data review, and approval of final report of analysis.
    3. Ensure that all reasonable client requests pertaining to the conduct of a given test are met in a timely and effective manner.
    4. Participate in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork throughout the laboratory.

    Job Qualifications:

    1. B.S. in Microbiology or Biological Sciences
    2. Thorough knowledge of basic microbiology
    3. GMP/GLP laboratory experience
    4. Minimum two years laboratory experience with emphasis in microbiology
    5. Excellent language and communication skills

• Microbiology Lab Technician

    In general, the duties of this position are geared toward supporting study directors in the overall conduct of their studies, as well as performing general tasks essential to maintain a clean, efficient Microbiology Lab. Overall, the Laboratory Technician 1 is an entry level position which presents the employee with an opportunity to both play a key role in the laboratory and learn the appropriate skills necessary to advance in the department.

    You will assist study directors in specific tasks related to the conduct of a given test or group of tests. Duties here include test preparation, proper application of test method(s), and data collection. Perform general tasks essential to a clean and efficient microbiology lab. Duties here may include: cleaning and disinfecting work spaces; inventory, receipt, and storage of lab supplies; maintenance and cleaning of equipment and glassware; and preparation of materials used for testing. Demonstrate willingness and ability to train on applicable general SOPs pertaining to the microbiology department. And become familiar with GMP/GLP regulations as these pertain to work performed in the microbiology lab.

• Toxicology Research Assistant

• Animal Care Technician

    The Animal Care Technician reports directly to the Animal Care Supervisor and is responsible for ensuring that PBL’s animal colony is maintained according to relevant company standard operating procedures and that each animal within the colony is housed, fed and watered according to established guidelines for laboratory animal husbandry. By performing the duties successfully on a daily basis, the Animal Care Technician plays an indispensable role in the overall success of the Toxicology Services Department.

    The job includes regular daytime hours with weekend and holiday duties. Technicians must be able to read, write and comprehend English. Basic math skills are required. Prior experience is welcome but not required.
